Health and Wellness

What We Offer

The Health and Wellness Ministry offers several diverse outreach efforts to enrich the health and wellness of Holy Spirit parishioners and of the Holy Spirit community.

The Parish Nurses Ministry is a group of volunteer nurses, who are parishioners, that promote wellness within the parish community. They provide health education, referrals and screenings for the school and parishioners, support groups, and information to improve lives.  The Ministry administers to the sick and helps them access different services in the community. After masses once a month, the Parish Nurses Ministry performs blood pressure checks and blood sugar screenings. The Parish Nurses Ministry also provides new projects as needed, such as, the Alzheimer's Caregiver Support Group.

One effort that the Health and Wellness Ministry undertakes is the Blood Drive Ministry, which coordinates and runs the blood drive for the Parish twice a year. Many parishioners volunteer to donate blood via the Indiana Blood Bank, and others help by donating or serving refreshments.  The Ministry has a Sign-up Sunday to obtain donors and to organize volunteers to bring refreshments for the donors/workers.  The blood draw takes place in the gym before and after Sunday Masses.

Purpose: Promoting health and preventing illness within the Holy Spirit Parish community and, hopefully, providing health outreach to the general community as able.  The mission of a Parish is to serve a community, which includes the geographic region of a Parish, not only the parishioners of a Parish.

Who Belongs: Open to all nurses of the parish wishing to assist in health outreach.  All are welcome and needed!

How Often Do They Meet: Few, irregular meetings and contact via telephone.
