Marriage Preparation

What We Offer

Fr. Munshower started the Marriage Prep Program in the 1980s with a close knit group of about 10 couples, in response to the Archdiocesan initiative to promote healthy, happy, permanent relationships.  The purpose of the Ministry remains the same today to encourage couples to discuss a broad range of important topics can help them understand the meaning of their union, discover their individual styles, and learn communication and conflict resolution skills that will enhance their lifelong relationship.

We currently have 11 Sponsor Couples, but we would appreciate more volunteers.  The Priests assign each engaged couple to a Sponsor Couple, who then meets with them in their home typically three times: initial meeting to administer the FOCCUS Inventory (Facilitating Open Couple Communication, Understanding & Study); and two follow-up meetings to discuss the various topics.  Approximate time commitment is 18-24 hours per year.  Sponsor Couples meet as a group once a year to share experiences and enjoy friendship.

Marriage Box – Most people get married believing a myth that marriage is a beautiful box full of all the things they have longed for: companionship, intimacy, friendship, etc.  The truth is, that marriage at the start is an empty box, you must put something in before you can take anything out.  There is no love in marriage, love is in people, and people put love in marriage.  There is no romance in marriage, you have to infuse it into your marriage.  A couple must learn the art, and form the habit of giving, loving, serving, praising, of keeping the box full.  If you take out more than you put in, the box will be empty.

If you are interested in becoming a sponsor couple or want more information, please contact Larry and Teresa Heil at 317-657-7093.  We will train you both by having you go through the process with an engaged couple with us.  You do not need to be an expert, just couples that want to contribute to the next generation.

Bible Quote

Love is patient, love is bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things...So faith, hope, love remain, these three, but the greates of these is love. - 1Corinthians 13:4-13

Volunteer Quotes

  • "Marriage Takes Three to be complete.  It's not enought for two to meet.  They must be united in love by Love's Creator.  God about.  A marriage that follows God's Plan takes more than woman and man.  it needs a oneness that can be only from Christ.  Marriage Takes Three."
  • "Meeting with engaged couples keeps our marriage fresh and give us hope for the next generation that will come out of their loving commitment to each other.
